Fabric Love
Fabrics and their hierarchy in the Sewing Room.
I always wanted a sewing room to have all to myself and when I moved into my current house I earmarked a room almost straight away. It didn't need to be big just functional and mine.
Filling my room with useful furniture was a slow process but I knew I wanted good storage for my fabrics and it needed to provide protection from the sun that streams in the window.
Storage sorted and I went through all my fabric - a kind of audit and realised that there was a definite love thing going on for certain fabrics and others, although appreciated, weren't in the same league. I organise my favourites in a very different way than the others and love just being able to admire them.
I organise dressmaking fabrics by type - ie corduroys and brushed cottons to one side, lawns, poplins and seersuckers to another. Jerseys are in a box and my polycottons are folded neatly in a pleasing colour range. Voiles and chiffons are folded into thirds and placed together. I haven't even mentioned curtain/cushion fabrics and everything else.
What's your system?
